| This is an on-line meeting area for AWS Members to discuss all issues surrounding the creation of On Line Materials for the American Wine Society. Sub topics include: The new AWS Web Portal Project and all issues related to the project.
This area is for anyone who is interested in learning more about the Wine Judge Training Program sponsored by the American Wine Society. Please feel free to come on in and "look around". This is the starting point to officially enter Year 1 of the WJTP.
This area is for teachers to discuss private issues with the WJTP. Items to include are teaching styles, materials, conference logistics, reimbursements etc.
Year 1: Essentials of Wine Evaluation includes vocabulary, appearance, aroma, flavors, taste, texture, components, balance, flaws, as well as objective evaluation and scoring. The American Wine Society has a training and certification program for AWS members interested in becoming wine judges. To qualify, you must be a member of the AWS and attend the AWS National Conference for three out of four consecutive years. Year 2: Factors Affecting Wine Quality and Variety Identification includes the influence of viticultural (grape growing) and enological (winemaking) practices, variety characterization and identification, wine styles, wine components and flaws, and objective evaluation and scoring.
Year 3: Judging of Wine Styles includes classes and types of wines, blending, judging environment, wine components, wine competitions, and objective evaluation and scoring.
Appreciation of Wine Through Education is more than a "catchy phrase"... it requires a certain dedication to the lifelong study of wine. This course/meeting place is an online meeting area for graduates of the Wine Judge Training Program to share their knowledge with the students enrolled in the current Program... a "Pay it Forward" approach to wine education.
